Today, we might be a bit jet lagged. We woke up decently early, and apparently so did Winnie & Michael. So we got ready, and started our day early. Today is a relaxing day to explore the city. We started with a brief walk down to the beach, where we met up with Winnie & Michael. YogurStory is where we’re headed for breakfast today. After taking some pics by the beach, we ordered our Uber. It must’ve been a bit too early for Uber drivers, cause it was a 15 min wait for our Uber. We spent the time walking around and ABC mart, and checking out the offerings so we can compare to other places (such as Walmart, Target, Don Quijote, and groceries stores)

When we finally got in the Uber, we checked the wait time at YogurStory, and it had jumped to over an hour. So we added our names to the waitlist, and changed our Uber’s destination to Don Quijote.

This Donki was very similar, yet very different from the ones we’re used to in Japan. No loud catchy tune, very wide aisles, and no pressure to continue moving 😝. We started to walk around, and all stopped at the sushi section. Something had caught Winnie’s attention. It was a small platter of otorro that looked very good. After a bit of discussion, and decision making, We ended up with a platter of chutorro, and a poke bowl of spiced tuna and salmon. We thought that was it, until we walked a bit further down and saw sashimi. Here we picked up a platter of hamachi. Then off to the cashiers before we got distracted again

These were very fresh, great first meal of the day, and in Hawaii! This was also our first encounter with the local chickens that roam the street.

We checked our spot in the waitlist, and we‘re getting close. Time to start walking to YogurStory. It was about a 10 minute walk away, and just as we were arriving, our table was ready. Perfect timing! We landed on 3 items to share here. A Hawaiian Loco Moco, Kuala Pig Eggs Benedict, and an Ube Pancake

This is also where we started the new pose of the trip

After breakfast, we found our way to Ala Moana mall. This place is quite unique, as it’s a large open air style mall.

And finally found our way to the Foodland, for more food. I don’t recall what time we arrived, but it wasn’t long after we finished breakfast 🙃. We started with 2 poke bowls. One salmon, and the other was tuna.

And this was our first encounter with Hawaiian rice… We didn’t like it. It was quite bland and wet. After sharing these 2 poke bowls, we were still hungry. We looked at a nearby table, and the couple was eating poke on chips. Fantastic idea! Round 2, here we go!

This was much better! After we finished this, we grabbed a pack of pineapples for dessert. A little sour, but still godo.

Not sure if this comes across on the blog, but we just had 3 rounds at Foodland. We ended up spending around 3 hours here! Time to leave now. We grab an Uber, and decide to head to the local Stussy store to see if we can get the local Stussy Honolulu shirts. We had heard they’re pretty hard to get, and people tend to start lining up early in the morning to get one, but let’s see what they have at 4pm. Turns out, only Small and X-Large remaining. We came up with a plan for two days later, where Winnie and Wincy would come back for Stussy shopping while Jonny & Michael were learning to surf. We continued to walk through the local Waikiki shopping area, while slowly making our way back towards our hotels. the Waikiki area has plenty of Honolulu Cookie shops. Always a great place to stop by for samples

And stopped by a local Miffy shop

As we start making our way back to the AirBnb now, Google Maps showed a beachside boardwalk that we can take, so why not. Didn’t think however, that this would take us through the sand 🙃.

The walk was a bit of a struggle for me, as I didn’t want my shoes to fill up with sand. We found the first way out, and just turns out that it’s Surfboard Alley. This is a neat alleyway that is used to lock up the surfboards of locals. There must’ve been a couple hundred surfboards lining these walls. This was one of the photo spots on the list, so had to stop to take some pics.

As we’re walking back to the AirBnB now, we see the International Marketplace. As it’s on our way back, we decided to cut through and also do a quick walk through Target to see if there’s anything we wanted. There were also a couple interesting shops along the way, and a food hall
As we were leaving the International Marketplace, noticed a spot across the street called Donut King. It then dawned on us, how did we go through an entire day of eating, without having a malasada? This just didn’t sound right to us, so we made our way over. As we walked over, had a quick look on Google, and this place was pretty well rated. 4.7 stars! We went in, and they still looked very fresh, considering they were closing up in 20 mins. We decided on a

After getting back to the AirBnB, we didn’t really want to go out again. Winnie had already succumb to another cup noodle, and Wincy wasn’t too hungry. Luckily, we also had packed instant noodles

And finally, time to try out the donuts. Turns out, these were amazing! Airiest donuts we’ve ever had. And the Pineapple filled donut was amazing! Had real pineapple in the filling.

And now it‘s time to sleep. It’s been a long day. Up early tomorrow for a hike.
